«Un pianista che fa pensare e sognare»

With these words, Nicolas Giacomelli, Italian pianist and composer born in 1998, has been described. Praised for his “audacity and perfect mastery of the form” (Pianiste, S.Friédérich), through his interpretations he reveals “exceptional intellectual and emotional qualities, along with complete mastery of the keyboard […], all with a certain underlying sobriety” (L.Ciammarughi).

Nicolas Giacomelli is the recent first prize winner of the 4th Shigeru Kawai International Piano Competition in Tokyo, marking the beginning of an artistic collaboration with KAWAI. Over his career, he has received awards in over 40 competitions, including the Concours International Piano Campus (France), Premio Venezia, NTD Competition (USA), and the Friuli Venezia Giulia International Piano Competition (Italy). In 2016, he was officially awarded the title of Italian musical excellence.

Giacomelli has performed across Europe, America, and Asia, in prestigious venues such as the Quirinale Palace in Rome, Fazioli Concert Hall, Cité de la Musique in Paris, Sakura Concert Hall in Shibuya, Ateneo de Madrid, National Art Gallery in Sofia, Sala Petrassi in Rome, Robert Schumann Haus in Zwickau, Keio University Hall in Yokohama, Palazzo Ducale in Genova, Auditorium Manzoni in Bologna, Aula Magna dell’Università Cattolica and Sala Verdi in Milan, as well as at festivals and foundations like the Festival dei Due Mondi in Spoleto, Festival d’Auvers-sur-Oise, Accademia Filarmonica Romana, Amici della Musica di Padova, Fondazione William Walton, Festival PianoSofia in Milan, Festival Primavera di Baggio, Bassano OperaEstate, Bologna Festival. He also collaborated with various orchestras and conductors including Marie Jacquot, Benoît Girault, Matteo Parmeggiani and Paolo Paroni. Active in chamber music as well, he regularly plays with violinist Lorenzo Meraviglia and the Àrktos Trio. His recordings and interviews have been broadcast on Rai Radio 3France Musique and SkyClassica HD. In 2025, he recorded his fourth CD as part of the Brahms Project of the International Academy of Imola.

The key mentors in his training have been Leonid Margarius and Benedetto Lupo, at the International Academy of Imola and the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia respectively. He also completed an Artist Diploma at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris under the guidance of Michel Dalberto and Frank Braley. At the same time, he earned a Master’s in Piano (2016) with honors, a Master’s in Composition (2021), and a Master’s in Instrumentation for Wind Band (2019) from the G.B. Martini Conservatory in Bologna. Giacomelli is currently a piano professor at the A.Corelli Conservatory in Messina.
